Suleiman Jasir Al-Herbish (Saudi) is the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Vienna-based OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID). The Fund is a development finance institution created 31 years ago by the Member States of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries to pursue South-South solidarity and cooperation between OPEC Member States and other developing countries. OFID's objective continues to be the social and economic advancement of the latter countries. A former assistant deputy minister, Mr. Al-Herbish has also served as chairman and member of the Board of Directors of several Saudi enterprises. In 1990 he was appointed Governor for Saudi Arabia at OPEC (deputy minister's rank), a position he held until his assumption of office as OFID Director-General in November 2003.
Mr. Al-Herbish holds a BA in Economics and Political Science from the University of Cairo, and an MA in Economics from Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas.
Mr. Al-Herbish is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED).
