On 29 November 2007, 120 chief executives representing major business sectors from across the Arab region have agreed in Abu Dhabi on staunch commitment to advance the principles of environmental responsibility and cleaner production, and set a target to reduce the consumption of energy and water in their operations by 20% by the year 2012 (relative to 2002). This pledge came in the declaration issued at the conclusion of the groundbreaking Corporate Environmental Responsibility Summit, organized by the Arab Forum for Environment & Development (AFED) in cooperation with the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi. The Declaration had been later endorsed by the Council of Arab Environment Ministers, who pledged support for its implementation.
