• AFED Mourns Passing of Former Chairman, Mostafa Tolba, Geneva, 28 March
Founding Chairman of AFED's Board of Trustees Mostafa Kamal Tolba passed away at the age of 93. AFED issued an obituary, calling him the father of international environment diplomacy http://afed.me/1qkUbyA. He passed away in a clinic in Geneva and was buried in Cairo.

AFED Founding Board m Member Dr. Riyad Hamzah has been appointed President of the University of Bahrain (UoB). Professor Hamzah was Secretary General of the Higher Council of Education, and previously Vice President of Arabian Gulf University http://afed.me/1qiVRcq
• GEO-6 Consultation, Manama, 30-31 March
AFED Secretary General Najib Saab, member of the High Level Group (HLG) overseeing the production of UNEP's sixth Global Environment Outlook (GEO-6), participated in the Regional Assessment Review meeting for West Asia in Manama. GEO is the UN flagship report on global environment, meant to inform on environmental decision-making facilitate the interaction between science and policy.
• AFED at MENA Renewable Energy Conference, Kuwait, 4-6 April
Secretary General Najib Saab and Senior Adviser Dr. Ibrahim Abdelgelil are representing AFED at the 6th Middle East and North Africa Renewable Energy Conference in Kuwait on 4-6 April. AFED highlighted the "Integration and Cooperation among Energy Initiatives in the Arab Countries", addressing the ability of current initiatives to face future energy challenges.
• ESCWA/UNEP/LAS SDG Meeting, Beirut, 14 April
AFED experts are taking part at a meeting at the UN House in Beirut, to prepare for the 3rd Arab Forum on Sustainable Development (Amman, 9-10 May 2016) and the 2nd United Nations Environment Assembly (Nairobi, 23-27 May 2016). The meeting is organized by ESCWA with UNEP and the League of Arab States.
• AFED on SDGs at the United Nations General Assembly, New York, 21 April
Upon invitation from the president of the UN General Assembly, AFED Secretary General will deliver a statement at the High-level Thematic Debate on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 21 April. The statement, representing the Arab region, will tackle national responses to implement the SDGs
• UN Environment Assembly (UNEA), Nairobi, 19-27 May
AFED will be participating at the second United Nations Environment Assembly, to take place at UNEP's headquarters in Nairobi on 23-27 May, and events preceding it, including: Science-Policy Forum (19-20 May), and The High-Level Intergovernmental and Stakeholder Advisory Group (HLG) / Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP) Meeting. AFED will be holding a consultation meeting to discuss drafts of its report on Sustainable Development Goals in the Arab region. AFED Secretary General has been invited as moderator and speaker in four sessions.
