AFED 10th report at LAS, ESCWA and UNEP meeting, Cairo, 22-24 April
Secretary General of the Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED) Najib Saab presented the preliminary results of AFED's upcoming tenth report on Arab Environment in 10 Years, at a consultative meeting in Cairo on April 22, hosted by the League of Arab States, ESCWA and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). The session was moderated by UNEP Regional Director Dr. Iyad Abumoghli. Among the speakers were two of the report authors, Dr. Walid Zubari and Hussein Abaza. Details here http://afed.me/2qzd714

AFED Founding Trustee Maroun Semaan Passes Away, 1 May
Secretary General of the Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED) Najib Saab announced to AFED community the passing of founding trustee Maroun Semaan at hospital in Boston, following one year of treatment, in a message circulated on 3 May. See full text here http://afed.me/2q87dme

• AFED at Arab Sustainable Development Forum in Rabat, Rabat, 5 May
The 2017 session of the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development convened in Rabat, Morocco, between 3-5 May 2017. Hosted by the Government of Morocco, the event was organized by ESCWA, UN Environment and the League of Arab States.

Arab Week for Sustainable Development, Cairo, 14-17 May
Senior Advisor Hussein Abaza represented AFED at the first Arab Sustainable Week between 14-17 May in Cairo.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Investment, the World Bank and UNDP, the League of Arab States held this conference as part of its efforts to promote sustainable development, its aims and achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda.

Environment Lecture Series at Shoman Foundation in Amman, Amman, 16 May
Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation in Amman, Jordan, will be organizing a series of monthly lectures on environmental themes, in cooperation with Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED). This was agreed at a meeting with the management of Shoman Foundation, in which AFED was represented by Secretary General Najib Saab and Board member Khaled Irani. The lectures, which will be held over a period of 12 months, will host a number of prominent Arab and international speakers, and cover major topics including renewable energy, waste management, water, food security, eco-tourism, air quality and scientific research, among others.

Consultation on AFED Report at Petra University, Amman, 17 May
AFED presented at Petra University the initial findings of its 2017 annual report on Arab Environment in 10 Years. The meeting was hosted by Petra University Chancellor and Chairman of AFED Board of Trustees Dr. Adnan Badran. The audience included academics, students and civil society representatives. The report's editor discussed with the group parts of the drafts, covering developments over ten years regarding: environmental governance, water, energy, food, air quality and green finance. A Blue Economy for a Sustainable Development of the Mediterranean Region, Marseilles, 30-31 May
Secretary General Najib Saab will represent AFED at this event end of May. The conference will gather regional stakeholders as well as representatives of project partner organizations. It will present and discuss the conclusions and outputs of the Blue Economy Project and propose recommendations to be considered in Mediterranean governance processes. The conference will also highlight ongoing worldwide initiatives concerning the blue economy.
